Using Zoom for meditation worked far better than I expected. In fact, I think I felt far less self-conscious than I have in previous in-person mindfulness experiences! Muting the participants’ microphones meant any background noise on our end didn’t disrupt the session and it was nice to hear the sound of the birds behind Pippa.”

I found [Zoom] worked surprisingly well (as it was at a time where the sudden increase in online meetings had been feeling like a challenge). It was lovely to see the other people at the start / end, but I also liked having the option to turn my camera off during the session itself if I wanted. It was also great in that it took away the ‘travel’ time – so easier to fit session in.”

Even though Zoom would not be my first choice for meditation sessions, under the circumstances it worked very well to enable these sessions to happen. Being able to mute all participants except the tutor avoided unexpected noises which might have interrupted the session.”

I thought asking the team what their priorities and preferences were when deciding what to do in each session, and encouraging members to share experiences was a good idea. Because individuals were at a difference stage in their meditation practice it meant more experienced members shared their knowledge with the group.
